Privacy Policy — Burn Book
Effective: 2026_05_10

Burn Book is a hot sauce tracking journal. We respect your privacy and collect as little data as we possibly can to make the app work.

Data stored on your device only (never uploaded to us):

  • Your sauce log, shelf inventory, tasting sessions, wishlist
  • Photos you add to bottles
  • Notes you write
  • Your heat tolerance preference
  • Your app settings

We never see this data. It lives on your iPhone and (if you enable it) syncs via your private iCloud account.

Data we collect via analytics (only if you opt in):
If you enable “Share anonymized data” in onboarding or Settings, Burn Book sends anonymous app-usage events to Mixpanel, a third-party analytics provider. Examples: which screens you visit, what features you use, app crashes, time of day, app version, iOS version, and general device model.

This data is tied to a random anonymous identifier generated on your device — not to your name, email, Apple ID, or any other personal identifier. You can turn it off anytime in Settings → Data → “Share anonymized data.”

We use this data to understand which features matter, fix crashes faster, and improve the app over time. We never sell it. We never share it with hot sauce brands or third parties beyond Mixpanel itself (the provider that hosts the analytics).

Permissions the app may request:

  • Camera — to take photos of sauce bottles. Photos stay on your device.
  • Photo Library — to add existing photos to bottles. Same — photos stay on your device.
  • Notifications — to remind you about expiring sauces and the yearly “Burn Book Unwrapped” reveal. Optional. You can manage these in Settings.

Purchases:
The Burn Book Premium one-time purchase is processed by Apple. We never see your payment info. Apple’s privacy policy applies to the transaction itself.

Children:
Burn Book is rated 12+. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.

Your rights (GDPR, CCPA, and similar):
You have the right to know what data we have about you (which, for the analytics opt-in, is anonymous), to request deletion, and to withdraw consent at any time. To exercise these rights, email hello@burnbookapp.com. To withdraw analytics consent in-app, toggle off “Share anonymized data” in Settings.

Changes to this policy:
If we make material changes, we’ll update the effective date above and notify you in the app on next launch. Continued use after a change means you accept the new policy.
